Clean up, Deltona!

February 23, 2007

I moved to Deltona 5 years ago. It was a growing community then and still is today.  My issue is the streets of Deltona have become like a dirty large city (i.e. New York City or Boston); trash and litter on the side of the roadways, residents putting complete house contents on the curb for the trash company to pick up (which as homeowners/taxpayers we all pay for), junk vehicles in driveways, and yards and the "I don't have any pride in where I live" attitude.

I just read a volunteer sign-up sheet on the city web site for a clean up of Deltona Lake.  How about a city wide campaign? A city-wide neighborhood clean up day with the motto: If you don't care about your city, don't help clean it help. The neon signs the city has around as you enter Deltona are good spots to get the taxpayers/residents attention for a clean up day. We did this in my old neighborhood (via flyers I had made for a neighborhood clean-up day) in Deltona on Joyner Drive and all of my neighbors came out with trash bags and WE ALL cleaned up our neighborhood together. Imagine what would happen if the city got together with the residents and we all cleaned up Deltona.

Deltona could be a clean place to live, work and play...

PS: What a great idea for code enforcement volunteers... please publish more about this as you receive the information...
Thank you for caring about Deltona....
